Since 1975, Barney’s Steak & Seafood has remained a successful and
well-known Orlando landmark amidst the increasing trend of a la carte
steakhouses in the area. Serving top-quality cuisine and
all-inclusive meals at reasonable prices, Barney’s continues to make
its presence in the high-end steakhouse market while maintaining its
traditional feel and comfortable atmosphere.
Orlando, FL – Barney’s Steak & Seafood has been a local favorite
since it opened thirty years ago. Located on Colonial Drive near
downtown Orlando, it still thrives in a neighborhood that once
flourished as area’s hot spot for night life.
Brad Dean, who bought Barney’s from Barnwell with a partner in 2000 and
then acquired his partner’s share last year, has refurbished the
interior of the establishment and updated the menu, but is constantly
aware of the importance of maintaining the traditional feel of this
Chicago-style steakhouse.
In preparation for the 30th Anniversary, Dean made many changes to the
dining room, including addition of more delicate lighting fixtures,
more formal white tablecloths, and a warm painted red brick décor, all
of which subtly bring the focus to the tables and a create a feeling of
privacy for the guests. Barney’s dining room reflects the
restaurant’s unpretentious yet elegant ambience.
“The new menu and the newly refurbished dining room are intended to
cause people to rediscover an Orlando tradition,” Dean said. “Many
restaurants come and go, but Barney’s is still here and still thriving
on the same principals by which it established thirty years ago.”
In the club room, where Barney’s holds dinner parties and special
events, the walls are lined with nostalgic images of Dean’s
grandparents, as well as a daytime photograph of Barney’s circa 1977
promoting the restaurant’s second anniversary.
“We’ve updated and improved the interior, but we’ve done so in a way
that maintains the traditional feel of Barney’s,” Dean said. “The look
is reflective of the inviting atmosphere you expect in an established
and respected steakhouse.”
Barney’s new menu features longtime signature items along with an
assortment of new selections. For lunch, which begins on weekdays at
11:30 a.m., favored appetizers include the stuffed mushrooms filled
with crab meat, and the dependable shrimp cocktail. Entrée-sized Caesar
salads with grilled chicken, sirloin, shrimp or salmon; and the
sandwiches like sirloin steak, grouper, barbeque beef and hamburgers
offer variety. Of course, Barney’s signature steaks and seafood entrees
are lunch menu staples as well. The crab cakes are homemade.
The dinner menu features Barney’s classics like filet mignon, prime
rib, broiled salmon, shrimp scampi, porterhouse, ribeye and sirloin.
Chef Tony Restrepo prepares a line of seasonal gourmet entrees, such as
the Filet Oscar "Deluxe,” which features a 7-ounce filet in a beef
demi-glace topped with lobster, asparagus and creamy hollandaise; and
Romano Encrusted Salmon, which includes Atlantic salmon with a Romano
cheese crust topped with sun dried tomatoes and a lemon caper
sauce. Another favorite is the Stuffed Filet Antonio, a 7-ounce
filet with a cornbread, shiitake, chorizo and Brazil nut stuffing
topped with creamy peppercorn sauce.
“Unlike many new steakhouses in the area, we offer ‘non-a-la-carte’
meals at very reasonable prices,” said Dean. “Our guests continue
to come here for our top-quality food and personalized service in an
environment where anyone can relax and enjoy themselves.”
Barney’s has entertainment seven nights a week, including piano in the
dining room with Eric Hall and Vangie Keate. From Wednesday
through Saturday, Keith Minton provides upbeat, piano bar-style
entertainment in the Atrium Lounge with Happy Hour specials beginning
at 7 p.m.
