Entertaining an Orlando tradition

June 22, 2005

Nightly live dining room and lounge entertainment have attracted Central Florida locals and tourists to Barney’s Steak & Seafood for more than 30 years.

Orlando, FL – In Orlando, dining and entertainment often go hand in hand. However, finding live dinner entertainment seven nights a week in a relaxing, yet elegant atmosphere, is often trickier than it sounds.  Most restaurants stage it only a few times a week; others provide it solely on weekends.

Award-winning Barney’s Steak and Seafood bucks that trend by offering live musical performances seven nights a week.  Pianists Eric Hall and Vangie Keate perform nightly in the restaurant’s dining room starting at 6 p.m., and Keith Minton provides upbeat, piano-bar-style entertainment in the Atrium Lounge from Wednesday through Saturday.  Each musician plays a unique mix of cocktail standards, oldies and show tunes, among others.

The popularity of the restaurant’s live entertainment has been steadily building a local crowd of regulars, especially since the lounge entertainment program started five years ago.  “When I first started performing at Barney’s,” said Minton, “there were hardly any visitors in the lounge.  Now, it’s grown to a lounge full of regular customers almost every night.  On Friday and Saturday nights, the lounge is full, and it’s always a blast.”

Vangie Keate, who’s been playing in the main dining room Barney’s for two years, attributes the success to Barney’s clientele. “The people are very friendly, appreciative and complimentary,” she said.

Located on Colonial Drive near downtown Orlando, Barney’s Steak & Seafood thrives in a neighborhood that once flourished as the area’s hot spot for night life.  The restaurant, which has recently undergone a complete interior and exterior renovation, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

“We have a fantastic base of loyal customers who have been coming to Barney’s for years,” said Brad Dean, Barney’s owner.  “In a market with so many restaurants, we realize that our guests have many dining choices, but our live entertainment and comfortable atmosphere set us apart and keep them coming back to Barney’s – two, three, even four nights a week!”
