Beer Pairings 101 unveiled in time for Oktoberfest

Mexico City, MEXICO– The newly-opened San Francisco-style Brickhouse restaurant suggests a great way to spice up your Oktoberfest celebrations with some simple beer and food pairings.

With more than 50 international and domestic beers on the menu, Brickhouse has established itself as a beer expert. Pairing beer at home does not have to be a challenge with Executive Chef Gabriel Francisco Monroy Ramos’ tips:

• Beer has the ability to either compliment or contrast the taste of the food, and even cut spicy tastes and seasonings, allowing each taste to be like the first.

Pale Ale beers are light, slightly fruity ales that enhance the “spicy heat” of dishes like Buffalo wings and chili. They also complement shrimp and other light flavored fish like mahi-mahi.

• Lager beers are smooth, light and slightly tangy that pair well with any type of grilled meats like steaks or burgers.

• Bock beers are strong beers that have a hint of caramel flavor. They often complement spicier foods like sausage rigatoni or meat pizzas.

• Stout beers are opaque, roasty brews that are dry with a mild chocolate essence. This beer pairs well with hearty soups and stews with brown gravies.

• Pilsner beers are light-bodied, mild malt beers with a flowery aroma. They are best paired with fish, shellfish and fried foods.

• Belgian Ale beers are similar to English Pale Ales and are considered a digestive beverage. They are most enjoyed after a meal with cheeses or desserts.

• Malt brews are sweeter in taste and perfectly compliment sweet barbeque sauces and cheddar soup.

If you don’t want to drink any of these regular brews, why not try a beer margarita - a frozen concoction with equal parts lime, Cuervo tequila and beer?

Brickhouse is an innovative and casual restaurant in Mexico City, serving a variety of premium brick- oven prepared items and featuring an extensive 50-selection beer menu, as well as an outdoor private beer garden.

Dining is just a component of the overall experience at Brickhouse, as it entails an interactive and young-spirited environment with exceptional hospitality.

Brickhouse’s atmosphere is reminiscent of an industrial warehouse set in the 1930s San Francisco Prohibition Era. Brick walls, concrete floors and metal and copper accents give the setting an industrial feel, while contemporary elements, such as fine furniture, fabrics and wood accents, create an upscale atmosphere.
