New Smyrna Beach, Fla. – Henry and Michele Salgado made a name for themselves in New Smyrna Beach when they opened Spanish River Grill & Wine Bar, a 60-seat eatery tucked in the corner of a shopping center that specializes in modern Spanish cuisine.
Seven years later, Spanish River Grill’s success has afforded the husband-and-wife culinary team the opportunity to open a second restaurant with an entirely new concept and menu.
Ocean Club Restaurant & Lounge opened for business in March, bringing a taste of seafood dishes from around the world to a small beachside town. The 150-seat ocean-side restaurant and lounge offers a selection of innovative seafood entrées that are reflective of Cuban, Thai, Fijian and West Indian culture.
Chef Henry Salgado, owner of Ocean Club Restaurant & Lounge, accentuates the natural flavors of fresh seafood with creations like the Jelly Doughnut, three savory conch fritters filled with chili-garlic sauce served with mango mustard, Conch Water, a traditional West Indies cream-based conch chowder, and the Swordfish Margarita, a 6-ounce chargrilled fresh filet, fried snap beans, basmati rice and Yuzu Margarita, a Japanese lime juice in a salted rim shot glass.
The second-floor restaurant invokes the ambience of an exclusive, upscale beach club with wood-raftered ceilings, dark woods, organic earth-tone accents and vibrant teal walls reminiscent of sultry oceans.
Guests looking for stunning sights to compliment their dining experience will find it on the restaurant’s covered outdoor terrace, which offers a tranquil breeze and picturesque view of the Atlantic ocean.
Ocean Club Restaurant & Lounge mixes a selection of island-themed cocktails including the Coconut Lime Ricky, a shaken rum milkshake, the Goombay Smash, a Bahamian favorite, and the Longboard, an adult iced tea concoction.
The restaurant’s sleek blue-green granite bar, which offers a view of the terrace and ocean, is accented by a wall constructed of handmade 10-foot surfboards. Nearby, a sexy candle-lit lounge with soft seating and airy white curtains provides an ideal spot to enjoy an after-dinner drink.
Ocean Club Restaurant & Lounge serves dinner 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The bar is open daily from 3 p.m. to midnight.
